Every day at House of Social brings around something different. But I do think I’ve perfected my weekday routine.
Here’s my typical day in the life as a House of Social resident.
Wake up
My alarm normally goes off at around 9am.
I have the Enhanced room at House of Social, which means it’s so easy to roll out of bed in the morning and stick the kettle on for a cup of coffee (one of my favourite times of day).
After I’ve had my caffeine hit, I’ll start getting ready for the day in my ensuite bathroom.
I absolutely love having a private bathroom and being able to display all my things, and use the space whenever I want. I’d say my favourite thing about the bathroom is probably the shower. That high-pressure makes such a difference!
If I have a little more time in the morning, I love taking my breakfast into the living area and eating it on the sofa.
Normally, my flatmates are preparing breakfast in our shared kitchen at the same time. We usually put some music on and have a chat. I really appreciate having this social interaction at the start of the day. It really boosts my mood, especially if I’m feeling a little stressed about uni work.
Getting to uni
After I’ve finished my breakfast, I’ll head out for uni. One of the things I love most about living at House of Social is how close it is to campus. It literally takes me ten minutes to get into my lecture hall. I really enjoy my morning walk (even if it’s raining).
Once all my lectures are done for the day, I love coming home and chilling with my flatmates on the sofa. To be honest, we probably spend too much time on that sofa. It’s far too comfortable. So we end up going downstairs to the gym to make ourselves feel better.
I use the treadmill a lot, particularly when it’s raining and I can’t run outside. I do also enjoy using the free weights and other equipment.
I’ve been surprised by how good my workouts have been in the House of Social gym. They help me destress and unwind after a busy study day.
I also love how the space is spacious enough for group sessions. Working out with my flatmates helps keep me motivated, and it’s such good fun as well.
Food Hall evenings
Me and my flat love going down to the Food Hall to have a drink as a reward for our effort in the gym. It’s the perfect chill atmosphere to relax in after hard work. It’s also a really nice space to meet the other flats and get a bit of a vibe going.
Sometimes, we’ll bring our laptops down to study, as they have an exclusive area for residents to work in. My friends and I love working in this space, especially with the unlimited coffee.
Chilling with my flatmates
After the fun in the Food Hall, we usually go back to our flat and cook something for dinner together. This is probably my favourite time of day.
Usually we’ll watch a film on the TV, enjoy some snacks, and chat about pretty much anything until it’s time to go unwind in our rooms before another busy day.
I feel so lucky that House of Social has brought such amazing friends into my life. My flatmates have honestly made my Manchester experience what it is, and I know they’ll be in my life forever, even if we are on different sides of the world.
Finding the dream routine
Living at House of Social is true to its name. I love the social environment, particularly with my own flatmates. It is so easy to walk across the corridor to the Food Hall and have a few drinks or a meal together.
But living here gives me the space to focus, too. The gym and Resident Workspace really help me get the endorphins flowing, and tackle the tasks I really need to get done.
For me, House of Social is the perfect balanced lifestyle.
